Synopsis of Home Again

Summary from memory by Rachel

Sydney goes to her first day at the clinic. Amongst her patients is a woman who appears to have been involved in domestic abuse. She isn't forthcoming with Syd. On her lunch break Sydney goes over to the woman's home. She wants to help her. The woman again says that nobody is hurting her. As she tries to get Sydney out of the house, the woman's daughter comes out of the kitchen throwing a glass. Sydney quickly realizes that the woman is not being beaten by her husband, she is being hurt by her daughter. The little girl is named Chloe and appears to be about 8 or 9 years old. She is autistic and lashes out. Syndey offers to help, but her assistance is refused. Finally the woman agrees to let Sydney take her daughter for the afternoon.

It's time for the christening of Joanie's baby. Everyone keeps telling Joanie she should name the baby Linda, after her mom, but she keeps mum about her decision. Syd's mom tells her in a dream that they should make Robbie's room into a nursery as a gift. She proposes the idea at breakfast, but he wants his room retained. Instead he thinks they should turn her room, which her mother had already made into a study into the nursery. He gets several guys from the bar who have tabs they need to work off to come over and accomplish the task.

Sydney comes up with an idea to reach Chloe. She brings her over to her dad's office and introduces Chloe to one of the dogs. The little girl seems to connect with the dog. While Sydney is there, Kyle comes in. Joanie called and told him his dog was in need of a shot, even though he was completely caught up.

When Sydney takes Chloe home, the mother can't believe Syd is going to burden her with a dog as well. Syd had called Health and Human Services when she thought the woman was being abused. The HHS man has found a school for autistic children. While Sydney tries to explain what she hopes to accomplish the dog runs out into the street and is hit by a car.

Sydney brings the dog to the house for her dad to treat. It's the middle of the christening and Robbie hasn't even shown up. Sydney quickly collects her dad and they go to the basement to try and save the dog's life. Joanie is left with the priest and the baby's father. She decides to name the baby Hannah.

Meanwhile Jim has been busy saving the dog's life. He brings him out to Chloe. She says "doggy," one of the first words she's said since she was 2 years old. Sydney asks her what she is going to name the dog. Chloe decides to name her Linda. Her mother says she won't be leaving for any school.

Later Sydney apologizes to Joanie for missing the christening. Joanie is very touched by the nursery. Syd asks her why she named the baby Hannah. Joanie said she just liked it.
